The long hot summer is a distant memory and many buildings have already turned on their heating systems. As winter approaches, condo owners and tenants need to be mindful that radiator piping can easily freeze and burst. A burst heating pipe will cause major flood damage and leave the building without heat while repairs are being made.
In order to prevent frozen and burst piping when the outside air temperature is below zero, please make sure you follow our quick tips:
- Do not close your radiator valve;
- Do not leave your patio door open, even a slightly open door can lead to a frozen pipe; and
- Do not leave your windows open.
You can avoid frozen and burst piping that seems to haunt many buildings every winter.

This month’s featured project proves that no matter the size of pipe, Pipe Shield has got you covered. We recently completed a project at the Ontario Science Centre. The project involved the installation of a new 8 inch backflow preventer on the building’s water main and all valves, associated piping and splitting of the domestic water main and the building fire main.
The project was coordinated with personnel from CBRE Limited, Ontario Science Centre and the local fire department. We ensured that there were no service disruptions to the facility during working hours.
